Los equipos h\u00edbridos combinan la informaci\u00f3n fisiol\u00f3gica de la medicina nuclear con la informaci\u00f3n anat\u00f3mica de la radiolog\u00eda. El resultado es un estudio que provee informaci\u00f3n superior que con gran frecuencia altera el diagn\u00f3stico y tratamiento del paciente evitando cirug\u00edas cuando son innecesarias, corroborando cuando una cirug\u00eda es necesaria y eliminando o reduciendo estudios adicionales innecesarios. Tambi\u00e9n evita la administraci\u00f3n de quimioterapias que no son efectivas reduciendo su costo y complicaciones y, cuando disponible, proveyendo oportunidades adicionales de paliaci\u00f3n o curaci\u00f3n cuando terapias de segunda l\u00ednea o experimentales est\u00e1n disponibles.<\/p><p>En el caso de PET-CT, una c\u00e1mara de PET (Tomograf\u00eda por Emisi\u00f3n de Positrones) se combina con un CT.\u00a0<\/p><p>Las c\u00e1maras gamma por a\u00f1os han tenido la opci\u00f3n de realizar cortes tomogr\u00e1ficos mediante SPECT (single photon computed tomography) para aumentar su sensitividad y en ocasiones su especificidad.
